Drum sticks aren't necessary, as this kind of drum is played with bare hands.
Rather than forking out on lessons straight away, why not get an instructional DVD and be a part of your child's learning experience right from the start. In this way, you are able to motivate your youngster and see if they're going to enjoy learning the instrument. When the basics are learnt, you will find different paths that the Djembe drum player can take. You'll be able to attend Djembe workshops, link up with a band or have private tuition from a teacher.
