Katy Perry delivers good pop on "Firework"

Katy Perry is probably the only pop star I could actually really feel compelled to deem a "guilty enjoyment." In my viewpoint, there are two varieties of catchy in the planet: The one with pop hooks so properly-crafted you'll want them replaying in your head until eventually the stop of time ("Umbrella," "Just Dance"), and then there's the apparent, derivative variety of catchy that cause you to itch and melt away like an "Micro Niche Finder".

Perry's productions are usually in the latter category. In truth, they kind of like the music equivalent of herpes: Wildly contagious, bothersome, and ultimately probably to lead to an intensive awkwardness when revealing your issue to lovers and pals. Get for instance one of the summer's largest singles, "California Gurls." The track is minor more than a direct rip of BFF Ke$ha's superior drunk-pop anthem, "Tik Tok," nevertheless it's managed to thrive nonetheless.

It isn't often the songs-generally the product or service of a suite of Swedish pop masterminds-that bring about these pangs of guilt and anguish, but instead Perry herself, whose doe-eyed, potty-mouthed persona leaves a lot to be desired. Aside from the occasional moment of sugary sweet brilliance even so ("Katy Perry Firework mp3 download"), the celebration balloons deflate fairly quickly, resulting in a report that feels about as fluffy as the pink cotton candy swirled around Perry's naughty bits on the cover.

Perry's shtick is obnoxious and, at times, hypocritical. Bolstered by a devoutly religious upbringing (and brief-lived run as a Christian rock artist), she has the gall to criticize her fellow pop stars for getting blasphemous sluts though concurrently shooting whipped cream out of her tits and posing topless for Rolling Stone and "SEO Forum".

But great pop is good pop, and every now and then, Katy Perry delivers good pop. This week sees the release of Teenage Dream, Katy Perry's comply with-up to her massively successful 2008 debut, 1 of The Boys. The album, like the a single before, is a veritable "who's who" of the best pop producers in the game, which include Max Martin, Challenging Stewart, Greg Wells, Benny Blanco, Dr. Luke, and Stargate.
